International Seminar «Israel, Palestine, Jerusalem and the Holy Places. Past, present and future»
The seminar tackled the issue of Jerusalem, three times a Holy City. The "Jerusalem Question" is arguably the most controversial aspect of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the general consensus being that the Holy Places of the three religions have become a focal point for any peace initiative.

En el seminario se abordó la cuestión de Jerusalén, ciudad tres veces santa, que es quizás la más polémica del conflicto árabe-israelí, coincidiendo todos en que los Santos Lugares de las tres religiones se han convertido en un punto neurálgico para toda iniciativa de paz.

I consider this conference to be of special importance because it places the spotlight on the general issue of women and human rights in the Middle East. We are addressing the issue of the status of women in civil society as well as in the political sphere. We are speaking about equal opportunities.

Para aquellos que no me conocen y que no estuvieron presentes en la cena de anoche, permítanme decirles que represento a la Fundación Heritage y que es un honor estar aquí, ser parte de este centro y poder escuchar y aprender, que es para lo que vine. Es para mí un honor poder hacer algunos comentarios a este prestigioso grupo. Pilar y yo nos conocimos hace cinco años cuando visitó el Departamento de Estado donde trabajaba. Colaboraba con el Gobierno de Estados Unidos en la reconstrucción y promoción de la democracia, así como en la reforma de la educación y en todos los aspectos en los que la Fundación trabaja directamente en el terreno, en Oriente Medio. Desde entonces he sido una gran admiradora de lo que hace la Fundación.

The future status of jerusalem in the framework of a peace agreement between Palestinians and Israeli
-The solution to the Jerusalem problem should be based on President Clinton's parameters (2000) and on the details offered by the Geneva Initiative (2003) and its annex published last year. - Meaning: the Jewish neighborhoods will be part of Israel, the Arab Neighborhoods will be part of Palestine, and so will be the various quarters of the Old City, except for the Jewish Quarter and the Western Wall, which will be part of Israel. - A multinational group in the Old City will handle disputes and security tensions between the two parties, while a council which will be comprised of representatives of the Jewish, Muslim and Christian religions, will act as a counseling body to the parties and will promote inter-religious dialogue and understanding in the city. - Jerusalem is holy to the religious faithful but is not owned by them. It has cultural and symbolic importance to many non religious people, and therefore the idea of putting Jerusalem's sovereignty under God, is irrelevant.
